Music
As post-punk evolved to become more visceral and human evolution allowed for new found communication skills with animals, artists like Animal Gutz and Boy Cry Wolf have emerged as forerunners of the ‘Primal Music’ genre.
Characterised by singing in frequencies that only dogs can hear, Boy Cry Wolf struggled initially to break the market and curry favour with the algorithms. However, when hired bassist Lemmy Lemon joined the band, all that changed. With slick grooves inspired by the sound of molten lava, Lemmy became a forerunner in the much beloved ‘Earth Sound’, an emerging sub-genre that has been credited with inspiring a new wave of Thunbergists who have begun singing Boy Cry Wolf songs at their 120-year-long ‘School Strike For Climate’ marches. Upon hearing underground hits like ‘ooooooooo’ and ‘aaaaaaa’ teachers and principles have literally melted like the liquid rock that the bass grooves seek to imitate.
Boy Cry Wolf says ‘I mean no harm with the music I make, and I understand why the algorithms haven’t fully embraced us yet as our music can burst eardrums, set dogs barking and create social disorder sometimes. However… you need to understand, it has a purpose.’
Meanwhile, Animal Gutz, despite what his name suggests, has taken the more commercial approach of toning down his singing from his early days on wildlife tours at nature reserves by lowering his vocal range 15 octaves to reach a more mainstream audience. He has this to say “I think it was when I realised that birds falling from their perches wasn’t a way forward for me that I had to change my singing style… I’m trying to connect more with that very limited ‘human tone’.”
The algorithms seem to be happy with this concession as Animal Gutz is now streaming 22% higher than Boy Cry Wolf.
